Each visible chart row was hardcoded to a fixed pixel height (110px in
advanced mode, 56px-capped in compact) regardless of the widget's actual
tile size - resizing the tile taller left the extra height unused, and
some visible charts required scrolling to reach.
Divide the available height evenly across rows using CSS Grid's
grid-auto-rows: 1fr (the Stack fills the tile via a definite pixel
height, the SimpleGrid grows into it via flex and divides its rows
evenly) rather than computing a per-chart pixel height in JS. Confirmed
via live inspection of a deployed board that Mantine's h prop is not
safe for this: its rem() converter strips a "px" suffix from any string
before checking whether it's a parseable number, so even a literal pixel
*string* passed through h= gets rescaled by rem() * var(--mantine-scale)
exactly like a raw number would - style.height is the only way to set
an exact, un-rescaled pixel value.
A container's outer grid cell and its own inner content grid are sized by
two independent calculations that only agree when the container is
scrollable and expanded. When collapsed, or when non-scrollable content
needs more rows than declared, the inner grid keeps rendering at its old/
content-driven size while the outer cell shrinks or stays fixed, leaving
an invisible-but-space-occupying box that inflates the board's scroll
height into a visible empty gap below the container.
Pass the outer instance's collapsed row count down as a
viewportRowCountOverride so the inner grid matches it exactly when
collapsed, and grow the outer placement's height to the already-computed
content minimum (getContainerMinimumSizes) for non-scrollable containers
so it stays in sync with the inner grid's own growth.
* feat(header): add opt-in auto-hide-on-scroll for the header
New per-user header preference (default off): when enabled, the
header slides away while scrolling down and reappears on scroll-up or
near the top of the page. Disabled while in board edit mode, and
skipped entirely while focus is inside the header. Only applies when
the header is set to visible - the existing hover-to-reveal floating
controls already cover the hidden-header case.
* chore(api): regenerate the checked-in OpenAPI schema
check:openapi was failing in CI - the schema on disk hadn't been
regenerated after the header preferences gained autoHideOnScroll.
Add scripts/generate-openapi-schema.mts (and a generate:openapi
package script) alongside the existing check script so this is a
one-command fix next time the schema drifts.
* docs(users): document the header studio's visibility and auto-hide options
Header customization (drag-to-arrange controls, hide/show, hover-reveal
and pin, auto-hide-on-scroll) had no documentation on the user general
settings page.
* fix(calendar): add cell spacing and scale day content with widget size
* fix(beszel): stop chart panels from leaving blank grid columns and size charts to fit the widget
* fix(widgets): address CodeRabbit review on calendar/beszel scaling PR
- beszel: account for the SimpleGrid row gap and the Stack gap between
the controls row and the grid in the available-height budget, so a
two-row layout no longer overflows the widget.
- calendar: memoize the day-cell scale lookup instead of recomputing
it on every render.
- calendar: don't render the notification indicator row when none of
a day's events have an indicatorColor, which was shifting the date
number up with no visible dot to show for it.
Skipped one finding: the claim that .day's absolute inset:0 covers
monthCell's padding. It doesn't - the containing block for an
absolutely positioned element is the padding edge of its positioned
ancestor per the CSS spec, so the padding correctly insets .day. This
was also visually verified in the browser while building the fix.
* fix(beszel): don't treat availableHeight=0 as omitted in computeChartHeight
A falsy check on availableHeight also caught the legitimate value 0
(widget shorter than its own padding+controls), falling back to the
full 180px height instead of clamping to MIN_CHART_HEIGHT - the exact
overflow this height budget was meant to prevent.
* fix(board): give AppShell root a viewport-height floor when a background is set
The board canvas sizes itself to its content, and AppShell runs in
'static' mode so <main> doesn't force a 100dvh minimum either. That
means a board's background image only covers as much height as the
content needs - collapsing a container (or any board with short
content) leaves flat page background showing below it instead of the
background continuing to the bottom of the viewport, looking like a
big empty void.
Root-caused via a local repro: the grid/reflow system was already
shrinking the collapsed container's own space correctly (verified the
live-measured canvas height matched exactly, not the stale debug
attribute) - the void was purely a background-sizing issue on the
AppShell root, unrelated to the collapse/layout logic itself.
* docs(boards): document background minimum-height behavior
The small refresh-circle overlay that appeared in a widget's top-right
corner during a background refetch wasn't adding useful signal and
just added visual noise. Drop the isWidgetRefreshing detection, the
indicator markup/CSS, and the now-dead query-key/runtime-query
plumbing that only existed to power it.
Updated the lazy-widgets e2e test to drop its assertions on the now
-removed [data-widget-refreshing] marker; the behavior it was really
verifying (cached content stays visible during a background refetch,
which completes cleanly) is still covered by the existing network
-level checks in the same test.
logicalWidth/viewportHeight can go non-positive for a narrow container
on a heavily zoomed-out board, where outerCardInset (which grows as
canvasScale shrinks) can exceed the container's own un-inset size.
That non-positive scale then feeds into a division (Infinity/NaN into
--board-canvas-ui-scale) and is used as zoom directly (invalid or
collapsed content) - flooring it well above zero avoids both.
Removing it in favor of viewportHeight for the vertical fit ratio left
the declaration itself dead code, which the CI lint step flags as an
error rather than a warning.
- Guard canvasScale before dividing by it in outerCardInset, matching
calculateBoardUiScale's own fallback.
- Fix containerContentScale's vertical fit ratio for scrollable
containers: it was derived from the full (all-rows) content height,
which drifts toward 1 as more rows are added regardless of the fixed
inset, under-scaling relative to what the visible viewport actually
needs and clipping the bottom of the visible rows. Use
viewportHeight/viewportRowCount instead, which describe the real
visible card size in both the scrollable and non-scrollable case.
A container's own visible card is inset from its allocated board cell
by the board's standard per-item gap, but items inside it are
positioned in a coordinate space sized to the un-inset column/row
count - so without correcting for that, items (not just the grid's
own box) spilled past the container's right/bottom edge by that
inset amount, worse the busier/more zoomed-out the board is.
Scales the container's inner grid content down to fit the actual card
size, using the same zoom mechanism the board's own top-level canvas
uses for its whole-board zoom, just one level deeper. Corrects
--board-canvas-ui-scale to compensate so icon/text/custom-CSS sizing
inside the container isn't affected - computed as a plain JS number
rather than a CSS calc() referencing the property's own inherited
value, since custom properties don't have a sequential/temporal order
within the same element and doing so is a circular reference that
silently invalidates the whole property for every descendant.
Also fixes the collapsible container's label bar poking above the
card's rounded top border via a negative offset - it now sits flush
inside it.
- Render the chart tooltip via a portal so it isn't clipped by the
card's overflow:hidden (needed to stop the chart line itself
bleeding past its rounded corners).
- Move chartColumns' width breakpoints into a lookup table and
memoize the computed value, instead of an inline ternary.
The chart card and its outer widget shell both had overflow:visible,
letting chart lines bleed past their rounded borders into neighboring
widgets. Compact-mode charts also stretched to fill the widget's full
resized height instead of staying compact like other widgets.
Additionally, the history used to build the chart needs 2+ points to
render a line - it started empty and only got its first real point on
the next poll (up to 30s later), so the chart would flash between a
single-value fallback and the actual graph. Both the initial render
and the first state update now seed with the current value duplicated,
so a flat line renders immediately with no flicker.
The User and Status columns used hardcoded pixel widths with table-layout:
fixed, so they stayed narrow regardless of how wide the widget actually
rendered - text truncated even with plenty of unused space in the
"currently playing" column. Switch both to percentages so they scale with
the widget.
Emby's integration also hardcoded playback/metadata to null for every
session, so the widget's existing progress bar, resolution, and bitrate
display never had anything to show. Port the same TranscodingInfo/
MediaStreams parsing Jellyfin already does (same underlying /Sessions API
shape) so Emby sessions get real position/duration, resolution, bitrate,
and transcode-status data. Also fix ticksToMs treating a position of
exactly 0 as missing, and share the one implementation between the two
integrations instead of duplicating it.
The WidgetTimeProvider plumbed a server timestamp and the container's
timezone down to useWidgetNow so clock widgets would paint a real time in
the SSR HTML instead of "--:--". That traded a cosmetic first-paint win for
a wrong clock: the seeded timezone is the server's, so anyone whose timezone
differs from the container's saw an incorrect time for the whole hydration
window. Fixing that properly needs a client-set timezone cookie read during
RSC render, which is far more plumbing than the problem warrants.
Revert the clock to release/v2 behaviour ("--:--" until hydration) and drop
the provider, the @homarr/widgets/time export and their tests. The e2e clock
assertions now wait on hydration explicitly instead of the seeded paint.
Also restore the widget.beszel.getSystemStats persistence exclusion. #6289
added it deliberately to keep those large time-series payloads out of the
persisted cache, and this branch had removed it with no stated rationale.
Query-cache persistence and the background-refresh indicator are unchanged.
Review follow-ups on the session query cache:
- Cache the per-payload size verdict and reuse a single TextEncoder. The
persist subscription re-dehydrates the whole cache on every cache event,
so every widget payload was being superjson-serialized several times per
refresh cycle just to measure it.
- Skip the size measurement on the restore path. It runs before any query is
allowed to fetch and the payload was already budgeted when it was written.
- Reject stored queries whose dataUpdatedAt is not a positive finite number;
`undefined <= 0` is false, so those were hydrating with a NaN timestamp.
- Add `stop()` and tear the persister down before `queryClient.clear()`, so
the clear cannot overwrite the saved snapshot with an empty cache.
- Remove every other scope's cache when a persister is created: signing out
navigates away before the scope guard can react, which left the previous
account's dashboard data in the tab.
- Remove the entry instead of storing an empty cache.
Refresh indicator:
- Make it decorative instead of an aria-live region; every widget refreshes
on a timer, so it made assistive technology repeat "loading" forever.
Also broadens the e2e hydration-error matcher to production React's minified
error codes, hoists the single WidgetTimeProvider in ClientBoard, memoizes the
resolved local time zone, and drops the exports this branch made dead.
* fix(dataTable): resizing a column no longer squashes the others
mantine-datatable's built-in column resize keeps the table's total
width fixed by shrinking every other column to compensate, which
collapses columns toward zero in a narrow widget (open upstream
issue, no fix: icflorescu/mantine-datatable#discussions-757).
Replaced it with our own resize handle that only ever changes the
width of the column being dragged - the table grows and scrolls
horizontally instead. Shared via usePersistedTableLayout, so docker,
downloads, and beszel-system-table all get it.
* feat(docker): enable hold-Shift advanced focus preview
The widget already renders differently for displayMode="advanced",
but was missing supportsAdvancedFocus: true, so the board never
offered the hold-Shift preview for it - matching downloads and
media-server, which both set this flag.
* style(docker): tighten row density, decouple icon size from row height
Circular avatar, denser row/footer padding, and action icons rendered
larger than their button via absolute positioning so they don't
inflate row height (the button stays small and fixed - it repeats
once per row, so any growth there multiplies across every visible
container).
* fix(data-table): harden shared column resizing
* fix(data-table): account for board scaling
* fix(data-table): compact shared headers
* fix(data-table): fit columns to widget
* fix(downloads): simplify advanced details
* test(widgets): align Docker advanced focus
* fix(downloads): widen expanded details

The compact view auto-reveals name/change/range as the widget gets
bigger, which can overlap badly depending on how the widget's actual
proportions land relative to those breakpoints. Add a switch (on by
default, matching current behavior) to force the minimal symbol+price
look regardless of size. Scoped to the compact layout only - the
Shift-triggered advanced view is untouched.
- Classify IPv4/IPv6 link-local addresses (169.254.0.0/16, fe80::/10) as
LAN in Jellyfin location parsing - they can't traverse a router, so a
false WAN reading was possible for common autoconfig/link-local sessions.
- Fix portrait video resolution mislabeling - a 1080x1920 clip was
classified off its long-axis height (1920) and showed as 1440p. Classify
by the short axis instead so orientation doesn't flip the result.
- Raise the compact-mode status column breakpoint from 420 to 540px - at
420 the fixed-width user (200px) and status (190px) columns left almost
no room for the currentlyPlaying column, the widget's primary content.
- Document the new resolution indicator in the media-server widget docs.
Rebuild the integration marquee on Mantine's Marquee, SimpleGrid and
ThemeIcon instead of the hand-rolled grid, track and keyframes, and
reduce the stylesheet to the mask and reduced-motion rule.
Drop the useMounted guards from the login form and let the buttons rely
on the pending state alone, and use Group for the restore flow's file
summary.
Replace the stacked install modals (browse -> details -> import review)
with page-based flows so the primary action is always reachable:
- /manage/custom-widgets/workshop browses submissions as a card grid
with large previews, sitting in a tab next to the installed widgets
- /manage/custom-widgets/workshop/[id] merges the listing, security
review and source setup onto one page with a sticky install footer
- /manage/custom-widgets/publish/[id] replaces the publish modal
- /manage/workshop redirects; its navbar entry is gone
- the Custom CSS picker collapses from three modals to one
Extract useCustomWidgetImport and ImportReviewContent so the Workshop
page and the file/clipboard dialog share one import pipeline.
Votes now show the viewer's own choice filled Reddit-style, backed by a
new user-votes query, and screenshots get a zoomable lightbox.
Rework the installed list onto ManageCollectionItem: show the widget
description, replace the cryptic "JSX - 2" badge with plain request and
origin facts, and swap the toggle and bare pencil for a status badge,
a labelled Edit button and a menu entry for enable/disable.
Fixes found while reviewing:
- importing could run twice and duplicate a widget; guard on pending and
succeeded, and return to the installed list instead of the heavy edit
form
- a background refetch of the submission (window focus, or the
invalidation a vote triggers) reset the source setup and silently wiped
part-typed credentials; key the reset on the sources, not the object
- breadcrumbs raised MISSING_MESSAGE for unmapped dynamic segments; fall
back to the raw segment via t.has
- publishing had no in-flight guard and could post duplicate listings
- tooltips on disabled vote and report controls never fired, making the
sign-in hint unreachable
The widget options ActionIcon rendered inside the widget Card, whose
containerType: size creates a stacking context, trapping its zIndex and
letting the dnd-kit resize handles paint over and block it.
Hoist BoardItemMenu out of the Card to the item root (same layer as the
title badge) and raise it to zIndex 30, above the handles (20). Error
recovery after edits is preserved via resetKeys=[item], which replaces
the resetErrorBoundary prop the in-card menu used to receive.
The composer auto-focused in both the board widget and the floating
panel, so on page load the widget stole focus and scrolled the page to
it, and opening the panel made focus jump between the two composers.
Make auto-focus opt-in via an autoFocusComposer prop: the floating panel
enables it (explicit intent to compose), while the widget leaves it off.
E2E specs spin up Docker containers in parallel and intermittently time
out waiting for UI elements under shared-runner load. Limit parallel
workers to 2 and retry flaky failures twice so the container job can
complete and publish the PR preview image.
Remove the 'Connected to this Homarr instance' subtitle (and the running
state text) from the assistant panel header, keeping only the robot icon
and title.
RequestTelemetry derived thread message metadata inside the useAuiState
selector with messages.map(), returning a new array on every render.
useSyncExternalStore treats the new reference as a changed snapshot,
causing an infinite re-render loop (React error #185) while an assistant
message streams. Select the stable messages reference and memoize the
metadata derivation instead.
Integration tests (nzbget, nextcloud, pi-hole, etc.) start Docker
containers and intermittently time out under shared-runner load, which
fails the fast gate and skips the container job that publishes the PR
preview image. Retry failing unit tests twice so transient container
startup failures do not block the image publish.

* fix: keep nginx IPv6 listen only when IPv6 is available (#4596)
Commit 2c48b1896 (1.45.2) made the internal nginx proxy listen on the IPv6
wildcard ('listen [::]:7575;'), which aborts nginx startup on hosts/VMs with
IPv6 disabled:
nginx: [emerg] socket() [::]:7575 failed (97: Address family not supported by protocol)
A plain revert would reintroduce #2697 and break IPv6-only/dual-stack
environments where this listener is required. Instead, only emit the IPv6
listen directive when the host actually has IPv6 configured.
Reuse the envsubst step run.sh already performs: compute NGINX_LISTEN_IPV6
from /proc/net/if_inet6 and substitute it into the template. proc files always
report size 0, so presence is detected by grepping the file (not 'test -s').
* fix: honor HOMARR_DISABLE_IPV6 override in nginx config generation
Review feedback on #6539: give users an explicit opt-out from the IPv6
listener even when the host reports IPv6. The issue reporter (#4596)
requested such an env var, and the pattern matches the existing
ENABLE_DNS_CACHING IPv6 toggle. Auto-detection behavior is unchanged when
the var is unset. Validated in containers: override wins, dual-stack
preserved by default, IPv4-only fallback on IPv6-less hosts.
* ci: drop --delete-branch from reconcile auto-merge call
The reconcile job runs without a git checkout, so gh pr merge --delete-branch
fails with 'not a git repository' before enabling auto-merge. Auto-merge
itself needs no local git state; branch cleanup is already handled by the
PR-creating workflows.
* ci: checkout repo in bot auto-merge workflows
gh pr merge fails with 'not a git repository' when no checkout is present,
which prevented the reconcile job from enabling auto-merge. Restore the
checkout the previous approval workflow relied on.

* ci: auto-approve and auto-merge trusted bot pull requests
Replace the approve-only automatic-approval workflow with a combined
approve + enable-auto-merge workflow that also re-runs on every push,
plus a scheduled reconcile job that re-enables auto-merge for prepared
bot PRs if GitHub ever disables it. Bot PRs are gated to the known bot

The pnpm fetch docs recommend `pnpm install -r --offline` without
--frozen-lockfile. The --offline flag already enforces no registry
access, making --frozen-lockfile redundant.
https://pnpm.io/cli/fetch
PR #6296 introduced pnpm fetch in the Dockerfile for Docker cache
optimization. However, pnpm fetch crashes with ENOENT when
patchedDependencies are configured with nodeLinker: hoisted because
applyPatchToDir tries to chdir into node_modules/<pkg> which doesn't
exist during fetch (only the content-addressable store is populated).
Fix: temporarily switch nodeLinker to isolated during pnpm fetch so
patches apply inside the virtual store (node_modules/.pnpm/...) which
IS created by pnpm fetch. Restore hoisted before the install step so
the final node_modules layout stays flat.

Next.js 16.2.9 does not fully support TypeScript 7 (tsgo) as the
primary typescript package. The Go-native compiler has no in-process
JavaScript API — lib/typescript.js is missing — which causes Next.js's
hasNecessaryDependencies check to fail and the build to SIGABRT with
CI=true. Vercel is working on native tsgo integration expected in Q3
2026 alongside TypeScript 7 stable.
The Mantine Indicator component (used by the Proxmox cluster health
widget for VM/LXC status dots) sits at z-index 200, which is higher
than the AppShellHeader's default 100. This caused the status dots
to bleed above the header when scrolling.
Set the header z-index to 201 so it stacks above Indicator content
without conflicting with modal/popover layers (300+).
Closes#6194
* fix(widget-secrets): add missing widget_secret migration and add error notifications
The widget_secret table was defined in all three Drizzle schema files but
no SQL migration was ever generated to create it, causing setSecret to
fail with 'no such table: widget_secret' in production (drizzle-kit push
in development hid the problem).
- Add migration SQL for sqlite (0040), mysql (0042), postgresql (0008)
- Update journal entries for all three dialects
- Add onError handlers to setSecret/deleteSecret mutations so errors
are shown as red notifications instead of silently swallowed
Fixes#6186
* fix(widget-secrets): add missing drizzle snapshots for merge-url and widget_secret migrations
The merge_custom_widget_url migration (0039/0041/0007) was committed
without a corresponding snapshot, breaking drizzle-kit generate for
all future migrations. This adds:
- 0039/0041/0007 snapshots reflecting the merge-url changes
(base_url+endpoint -> url, add enabled column)
- 0040/0042/0008 snapshots reflecting the widget_secret table
All snapshot chains now match journal entries (41/43/9 entries each).
The refactor from integration-based to option-based config changed the
useQuery enabled condition from 'integrationIds.length > 0' (always true
when an integration was linked) to 'query.length > 0'. The combination
of the debounced search value and the enabled toggle inside the nested
useOptions callback caused the query to never fire, making stations
unsearchable in the edit form.
Removing the enabled guard lets the query always run. The 300ms debounce
already prevents excessive requests.
* docs(helm): Update Helm chart documentation
* feat(widgets): add right-click context menu with auto-generated toggle actions
- Add WidgetContextMenu component using Mantine 9.3 Menu.ContextMenu
- Extend WidgetDefinition with contextActions API for widget-specific actions
- Auto-generate context menu toggle items for switch-type widget options
- Add 'Search' context action to media-requests widgets (list + stats)
- Keep existing dots-button menu for discoverability in edit mode
- Add widgetStateRef to WidgetComponentProps for client-side-only state
- Add skipContextMenu opt-out on switch option definitions
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* fix(widgets): address CodeRabbit review — badge in context menu target, edit-only pending gate
- Move title badge inside WidgetContextMenu wrapper so right-clicking the title overlay also triggers the context menu
- Remove full-menu hide during integration loading; only disable 'Edit' action while isPending
- Add isPending to allActions useMemo dependency array
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* fix(widgets): gate context menu behind authenticated session
- Only show right-click context menu for logged-in users
- Unauthenticated users see plain children without menu wrapper
- Matches existing BoardItemMenu session gating pattern
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* chore: revert unrelated sitemap change from auto-fix
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* fix(context-menu): persist widget option changes to server
Toggle switches and edit modal changes from the context menu now call
saveBoard mutation to persist to DB. Previously only the client cache
was updated, losing changes on reload. Removes unnecessary invalidation
that caused cascading refetch loops.

CodeRabbit review addressed:
- Removed the env-var gating (simpler: just remove source maps entirely)
- CI health check now fails fast if container never becomes healthy
Changes vs origin/main:
- next.config.ts: remove productionBrowserSourceMaps and serverSourceMaps
(they default to false, restoring pre-v1.68.0 behavior)
- Dockerfile: remove .map copy step and NODE_OPTIONS=--enable-source-maps
- CI: add memory-regression job (<700MB guardrail)
Closes#6123
Production source maps (--enable-source-maps) caused a ~50% memory increase
(600MB to 1000MB) in v1.68.0. Node.js loads all .map files into memory when
this flag is enabled, and Next.js server chunks generate hundreds of map files.
Changes:
- Guard productionBrowserSourceMaps and serverSourceMaps behind
HOMARR_ENABLE_SOURCE_MAPS env var (default off)
- Guard .map copy step and NODE_OPTIONS in Dockerfile behind
ENABLE_SOURCE_MAPS build arg (default false)
- run.sh checks HOMARR_ENABLE_SOURCE_MAPS before setting --enable-source-maps
- Add Docker-based memory regression CI job (<700MB threshold)
Closes#6123
* Add 'Columns to show' label in Docker stats
* feat: Add column translation keys for Docker widget
* feat: Enhance table with column visibility state
Added column visibility state management for the table.
* Add 'noColumns' error message to en.json
- Paginate GitHub releases via api.paginate to avoid missing tags beyond page 1
- Use tag_name instead of name for GitLab releases (name is a display label)
- Remove ArchiveTeam Warrior from widget-configured note in docs
- Fix test assertion to use objectContaining for error shape with message
- Wrap setSecret delete+insert in a cross-DB transaction
- Add MCP metadata to all widget secret procedures and register in mcp.ts
- Show configured tokens even when no repos use that provider
- Only clear token input after mutation succeeds, with loading state
Every error now includes a diagnostic message:
- noMatchingVersion: shows the regex used, how many tags were
checked, and sample tag names so users can see why matching failed
- noReleasesFound: distinguishes "no releases at all" from "no match"
- invalidIdentifier: shows the problematic identifier string
- unexpected: includes HTTP status codes from provider APIs
getLatestRelease returns { release } | { noMatch: reason } instead
of Release | null, carrying the diagnostic through.
Wrap each repository fetch in try/catch so one failure (Redis,
network, etc.) doesn't crash the entire query batch. Failed repos
now return a proper error response instead of causing all repos
to show "No response from provider".
The releases widget was crashing because throwIfActionForbiddenAsync
or the widgetSecrets query would throw before DB migrations are run.
Wrap in try/catch so the widget works without tokens in that case.
- Fix npm scoped package support (filter time metadata keys, make
description optional, exclude falsy releases from version selection)
- Fix timetable date formatting (use Intl.DateTimeFormat for stable
MM/DD/YYYY output) and named zod import
- Guard migration 0000 against unknown provider keys
- Fix migration 0003 to delete integration links by integrationId
- Reset immich album carousel index when photo list changes
- Add bounded limit to timetable router input
- Remove stale misspelled noProviderSeleceted translation key
- Fix provider name visibility in release widget settings
- Update docs: add ArchiveTeam Warrior note, fix typos, correct
showPhotoInfo default
The widget-only integrations refactor incorrectly removed the
ArchiveTeam Warrior integration entirely. It only needed to be
excluded from auto-seeding (by removing defaultUrl), not deleted.
This restores the integration class, reverts the widget/router/handler
to use integration middleware, and removes archiveTeamWarrior from the
widget-only-integrations migration.
The MantineReactTable defaults table cell backgrounds to
var(--mantine-color-body) which is opaque. This makes the
downloads widget table block appear solid while the footer
and other widgets correctly show the board's background.
Added a styles.css targeting table elements to force
background-color: transparent, following the same pattern
used by the beszel-system-table widget. Also added
bg=transparent to mantinePaperProps for the Paper wrapper.
Adds a Docker button to the user avatar dropdown menu (admin-only)
that opens a 1400px modal containing the same Docker container table
as /manage/tools/docker.
Closes#2165
* fix(manage/about): bypass self-fetch to prevent ECONNREFUSED crash
The /manage/about page fetched its own API routes over HTTP
(http://$HOSTNAME:3000/api/about/...). When the server could not
reach itself (misconfigured HOSTNAME, restricted container networking,
reverse-proxy setups), fetch threw ECONNREFUSED and the whole page
crashed with a full-page Next.js error (issue #6008).
All four routes were force-static serving static JSON / a direct fs
read, so the HTTP round-trip was unnecessary. Replace the fetches
with direct JSON imports and a direct getDependenciesAsync() call,
eliminating the self-network dependency entirely.
Also add a manage-level error.tsx boundary (Next.js 16 convention) so
that any future runtime error in a manage page renders a friendly,
localised fallback inside the existing layout (sidebar stays usable)
instead of the ugly default full-page error.
Exploration draft by an LLM.
Refs #6008
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* refactor: use @static-data path alias, simplify error ternary
- Add @static-data/* tsconfig path alias to replace 7-level relative
imports (../../../../../../../static-data/...) with clean alias
imports across the about page and all 3 API route handlers.
- Simplify error.tsx: replace ternary with && short-circuit.
- Preserve CI lint bot's .sort() -> .toSorted() fix.
Refs #6008
Beszel only stores stats at 1m, 10m, 20m, 120m, 480m intervals.
The 1440m type doesn't exist, so queries for 1w/30d returned empty
results. Use 480m (8h) with appropriate perPage (21 for 1w, 90 for 30d).
* fix(beszel): harden cache layer and prevent blank widgets
- Add debug logging across Beszel integration, request handler, and tRPC
router (auth, fetch, SSE, per-procedure entry/exit) gated behind
LOG_LEVEL=debug
- cached-request-handler: retry with backoff, isValid predicate to skip
caching invalid data, in-flight dedup (single-flight per channel) to
avoid thundering herd after cache invalidation
- redis channel: set-then-publish so storage is always consistent even
when pubsub publish fails
- Beszel handlers: opt into fallbackToStaleOnError and retry so brief
upstream hiccups don't throw away good cached data
- beszel-system-stats: add refetchInterval matching each time period's
cache TTL so historical charts refresh in the background
- tRPC router: switch Promise.all -> Promise.allSettled for getSystems
and getAlerts; getSystemStats returns an error object instead of
throwing. Each result carries an optional error field so one failed
integration no longer nukes the whole widget
- Widgets: add explicit isPending loader, empty state for grid and
stats, and a shared per-integration error indicator (tooltip with
failed integration names). Alerts and table now only show their
empty state after loading completes
- Translation: add empty.noSystems key to beszelSystemGrid and
beszelSystemStats

* feat(analytics): migrate from Umami to PostHog server-side analytics
Replace @umami/node with posthog-node for all server-side telemetry.
Add singleton PostHog client, feature tracking POC, DAU heartbeat,
and tRPC analytics router. Cron job is now locked (no manual trigger,
no custom interval). Update consent copy to explain what we collect
and why.
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* refactor(analytics): simplify + add client-side posthog-js init
- Inline constants.ts and track.ts into client.ts (single source)
- Remove dead exports (shutdownPostHogAsync, getPostHogClient)
- Flatten all DB queries into one Promise.all (no waterfall)
- Derive integration/widget totals from group-by (drop redundant counts)
- Add posthog-js with dynamic import, gated on enableGeneral
- Move Analytics component to body, pass consent from server settings
* style: auto-fix lint and format
* feat(cron): add hidden flag to cron jobs, hide analytics from task panel
The analytics job runs silently in the background — users don't need
to see or interact with it. Hidden jobs are filtered out of getAllAsync
so they never appear in the management UI.
* refactor(analytics): simplify to single toggle, always collect all data
Remove granular enableWidgetData/enableIntegrationData/enableUserData
toggles. Analytics is now a single on/off switch. When enabled, all
anonymous usage data is collected in one flat Promise.all call.
Side effect: existing users with enableGeneral=true who had granular
flags off will now send all data. This is by design — the granular
controls added complexity without meaningful privacy benefit since
the data is already anonymous counts.

Stalled torrents have time=0 (infinite/never), which raw numeric sort
places between negative (completed) and positive (active) values.
Add a custom sortingFn on the time column that maps 0 to Infinity so
stalled entries always sort last in ascending order and first in
descending order.

description:Navigate Homarr's monorepo architecture and reuse shared packages. Use when locating code, choosing a package boundary, understanding runtime services, tRPC, databases, widgets, integrations, cron jobs, Custom Widgets, Workshop, or checking @homarr/common before creating a utility.
---
# Homarr Codebase Context
Orient from the current checkout before editing. Treat package manifests, exports, and source as authoritative when they differ from this snapshot.
## Workflow
1. Confirm the branch and inspect the nearest `package.json`, existing sibling modules, and package exports.
2. Search `@homarr/common` before creating a general-purpose helper. Read [references/common.md](references/common.md) for every public entrypoint and export.
3. Read [references/architecture.md](references/architecture.md) when the task crosses packages, runtimes, routing, data, widgets, integrations, cron jobs, Custom Widgets, or Workshop.
4. Keep the change in the deepest package that owns the behavior. Reuse public entrypoints rather than deep-importing implementation files.
5. Re-run targeted searches before documenting counts, consumers, or dependency edges; these change faster than the architectural seams.
## Current toolchain
- Use Node `24.18.0` from `mise.toml` and pnpm `11.15.1` from `package.json`.
- Use pnpm workspaces with Turborepo. Workspace packages use the `@homarr/` scope and catalog-managed dependencies.
- Use Next.js App Router, TypeScript, tRPC, Drizzle, Mantine v9, Tabler icons, Jotai, TanStack Query, next-intl, Vitest, and Playwright.
- Use oxlint and oxfmt. Mantine is the application UI system; Tailwind is limited to the docs app.
-`pnpm dev` starts only `@homarr/nextjs`. Start a standalone runtime explicitly when the task needs it.
| `apps/nextjs` | Main Next.js application and HTTP APIs on port 3000 |
| `apps/docs` | Docusaurus documentation site on port 3003 |
| `apps/tasks` | Cron-job initialization and scheduling runtime; it does not expose the old port-3002 API |
| `apps/websocket` | tRPC WebSocket subscriptions on port 3001 |
| `apps/workshop` | Go/PocketBase Workshop service and provider integration |
`pnpm dev` runs only `@homarr/nextjs`. Use `pnpm --filter @homarr/tasks dev`, `pnpm --filter @homarr/websocket dev`, or `pnpm dev:docs` when a task needs those runtimes.
In production, `apps/nextjs/src/instrumentation-node.ts` starts the tasks and WebSocket runtimes inside the Node process. Nginx listens on port 7575, proxies `/websockets` to port 3001, and sends other traffic to port 3000. Redis can run internally or externally.
## Package map
### Foundation and domain
-`core`: environment validation, database and Redis factories, logging, infrastructure.
-`widgets`: widget definitions, dynamic component loaders, and shared widget UI.
-`translation`: next-intl configuration and locale catalogs.
-`cli`: Node operations CLI. `tools/homarr-dev` is the separate Go developer CLI.
## Dependency direction
Prefer these directions; verify the exact dependency in package manifests before changing a boundary.
1. Put infrastructure in `core` and stable domain names in `definitions`.
2. Put reusable, dependency-light helpers in `common`; use its public environment-specific entrypoints.
3. Build persistence in `db`, identity in `auth`, transport in `redis`, and external clients in `integrations`.
4. Compose server behavior in `api`, `cron-jobs`, and request-handler packages.
5. Build primitives in `ui`, `form`, and `modals`; compose product surfaces in widgets and collection packages.
6. Keep app entrypoints in `apps/*` thin. Avoid moving reusable behavior into `apps/nextjs` when a package already owns it.
## Core patterns
### tRPC and MCP
`packages/api/src/root.ts` lazily composes the application router. Server components use `@homarr/api/server`; client components use `@homarr/api/client`. MCP extraction requires the eager router in `packages/api/src/mcp.ts`, so MCP-enabled subrouters must be imported and registered there directly. Use the `mcp-integration` skill for exposure and security rules.
### Databases
Drizzle schemas live in parallel files under `packages/db/schema/`. `DB_DRIVER` selects `better-sqlite3`, `mysql2`, or `node-postgres`; migrations live in matching directories under `packages/db/migrations/`. Apply schema behavior consistently across all supported drivers unless the task is explicitly driver-specific.
### Widgets
`packages/widgets/src/registry.ts` owns the explicit widget-module and component-loader registries. `packages/widgets/src/manifest.ts` caches those loaders and exposes definitions, components, and combined resources. Widget modules use `createWidgetDefinition` and typed option builders. Data commonly comes from tRPC queries or Redis-backed cron results. Use existing shared widget components before creating local variants.
### Integrations
`packages/definitions/src/integration.ts` owns `integrationDefs` and `IntegrationKind`. `packages/integrations/src/base/creator.ts` owns `createIntegrationAsync`; concrete integrations implement the shared base contract. Keep credentials and permission checks on server-owned paths.
### Cron jobs
Jobs live in `packages/cron-jobs/src/jobs/` and use `createCronJob`. `apps/tasks` initializes and starts the job group. Job results and status can flow through Redis and tRPC; the retired port-3002 management-API model is no longer part of the architecture.
### Routing and localization
User routes live below `apps/nextjs/src/app/[locale]/`; the locale segment does not add a URL prefix. Route groups organize home and board surfaces. Administrative routes live under `manage`, Custom Widget configuration has a token route, and Workshop has a management surface.
### Custom Widgets and Workshop
`packages/custom-widgets` owns the Custom JSX v2 contract. `packages/workshop` is the Homarr-side client/contract package; `apps/workshop` is the separate Go/PocketBase service. Use the `homarr-custom-widget` skill for authoring and security constraints.
## Commands and conventions
- Read current scripts from the root or package `package.json`; avoid caching commands that do not exist.
- Use `pnpm dev` for Next.js, `pnpm dev:docs` for docs, and `pnpm dev:cli -- <args>` for the Go developer CLI.
- Use `pnpm docker:dev:up` for the Redis development dependency.
- Use package-filtered typechecks or focused tests for the touched behavior.
- Use `~/*` only inside the Next.js app. Use public `@homarr/*` entrypoints across package boundaries.
- Keep Mantine application styles separate from the Tailwind-based docs app.
Import only from an exported package entrypoint. Do not deep-import `@homarr/common/src/*`. Check `packages/common/package.json` and the source again when adding or renaming an export; this inventory describes the current repository tree.
`NodeFetchHttpErrorHandler` exists as an implementation file but is not exported by the public server entrypoint. Add an intentional public export before using it across packages.
## Client and environment exports
-`@homarr/common/client` exports `revalidatePathActionAsync`, a Next server action for page revalidation.
-`@homarr/common/env` exports `env` with validated `NODE_ENV`, `SECRET_ENCRYPTION_KEY`, and `NO_EXTERNAL_CONNECTION` values.
description:Keep Homarr's Docusaurus documentation aligned with user-facing code. Use when adding or changing integrations, widgets, APIs, environment variables, CLI commands, authentication, permissions, cron jobs, settings, or UI behavior that users must understand.
---
# Documentation Sync
Update `apps/docs/` in the same change as user-facing behavior. Inspect adjacent pages and the docs types before copying a pattern; the source and docs evolve together.
| Permission behavior | `apps/docs/docs/management/users.mdx` and the affected feature page |
| Custom Widget or Workshop behavior | Relevant Custom Widget, Assistant, or Workshop documentation |
If no existing row fits, search by the user-visible term and update the page where a user would look for the behavior:
```bash
rg -n "<term>" apps/docs/docs apps/docs/src
```
## Follow existing typed patterns
For an integration:
- Add or update `apps/docs/docs/integrations/<slug>/index.ts` with the local `IntegrationDefinition` pattern.
- Add or update `index.mdx` with the established `IntegrationHeader`, `IntegrationCapabilites`, and `IntegrationSecrets` components as applicable.
- Reuse metadata from `@homarr/definitions` when the docs app already exposes it.
For a widget:
- Add or update `apps/docs/docs/widgets/<slug>/index.ts` with the local `WidgetDefinition` pattern.
- Add or update `index.mdx` with the established `WidgetHeader`, `WidgetConfig`, and `AddingWidget` components as applicable.
- Document options, required integrations, permissions, empty states, and changed behavior that affect setup or use.
## Completion criteria
1. Describe the shipped behavior, not an implementation plan.
2. Keep names, defaults, paths, screenshots, links, and prerequisites consistent with code.
3. Update every affected page and remove superseded guidance.
4. Run the narrowest useful docs validation. Use `pnpm turbo build --filter=@homarr/docs` when links, MDX, generated definitions, or navigation can fail; otherwise run the docs package formatter on touched files.
5. Treat broken links and anchors as failures; Docusaurus checks them strictly.
Author one widget or a coordinated set of widgets. Load only needed release-matched context. Run lifecycle tools alone; independent reads may run together. For a set, research once and finish each widget's validation, evidence, and persistence before the next.
1. Read primary API documentation. Use web search when documentation is not supplied or may have changed.
2. Create credential-free definitions with keyed `sources`, `requests`, optional `options`, and safe JSX `template`.
3. While drafting, use `customWidget_validateTemplate` for focused JSX diagnostics without resending the manifest.
4. Send the definition once to `customWidget_previewCreate` and test its queries/actions. For a JSX-only fix, validate, call `customWidget_previewReviseTemplate` with its session, and retest; it inherits the manifest and resets evidence. Create a preview only for source/request/option changes.
5. Configure deployment-specific source URLs and credentials through Homarr; never repeat plaintext.
6. Persist each exact final tested preview with `customWidget_createFromPreview`. Do not resend a large definition through `customWidget_create` when a preview session is available.
Treat a supplied sample or successful preview response as the binding contract. Render every core requested field, guard optional arrays and nested values before indexing, and do not silently drop returned items. Humanize numeric enums with indexed literal label arrays, omit absent numeric values instead of inventing zero, and label timestamp timezones. Give recoverable load errors and empty states a clear refresh or retry path.
Use `{option:name}` or `$option` for saved options. Use `{param:name}` or `$param` for values supplied by `SubFetch`, `ActionButton`, or `ToggleSwitch`. Load queries cannot use invocation parameters. Render load queries from `data` and `status` with `RefreshButton`; reserve `SubFetch` for manual parameterized queries. Templates read `data`, `status`, `options`, and temporary `inputs`.
For a bound control that depends on another input, declare its default and set `resetKey` to that scalar dependency. For example, `<Pagination bind="page" defaultValue={1} resetKey={inputs.search} />` restores page 1 when a search changes without fetching by itself.
`SubFetch` with `trigger="manual"` renders its own load button. Pass a card or image through `triggerContent` with `triggerAriaLabel` when that content should launch the request. Its callback is `(result, meta)`; callback names must not shadow the reserved roots `data`, `status`, `options`, or `inputs`. Never author `onClick` or a fetch callback. Use `Icon` or `TablerIcon` with a `name`; never invent an `IconFoo` component.
Plan capabilities. Use one `customWidget_findComponents` search per job. Batch selected non-obvious binding or interaction documentation with `customWidget_getComponents`; reserve `customWidget_getComponent` for one unknown-prop repair. Failed validation reopens discovery; otherwise search only for a missing capability. The full catalog is for broad exploration; load at most one example. Context never limits composition. Prefer clear hierarchy, responsive grids, divided lists, and aligned actions over nested row cards.
Do not simplify a useful workflow merely because the template is interpreted. Freely compose any supported installed components with multiple sources, requests, options, `choicesFrom`, bound filters, charts, responsive detail areas, manual queries, and safe actions when they improve the user's job. Complexity must remain purposeful rather than decorative.
Polish with a divided list or responsive media grid. Make one metric/action asymmetrically primary; keep headers compact, identity/state clear, metadata quiet, and one badge. At base artwork fills its row and caps above xs; never combine full-width media and nowrap.
Make initial states actionable and wrap variable labels/values on narrow tiles. Do not use an unlabeled decorative icon as an empty state.
Do not use imports, hooks, refs, raw HTML, raw event callbacks, browser requests, arbitrary functions, eval, bigint, npm packages, authored statement blocks, IIFEs, or recursion. Do not pretend MCP tools exist in an offline chat session.
For a community widget, use `customWidget_workshopSearch`, `customWidget_workshopGet`, then `customWidget_workshopInstall`; configure its source securely. Preview configuration expires, so create before persisting configuration.
Reference routing:
- Load `schema` once before a new manifest; otherwise only for concrete request or option ambiguity.
- Load `runtime` for bound inputs, manual queries, actions, or other interaction.
- Load `security` once for any authenticated source or mutation, or to resolve a URL or interpreter limitation.
Repository installations expose these as files under `references/`. MCP clients can call `customWidget_getReference` or read `homarr://custom-widgets/references/{name}` instead of loading every reference.
Templates read `data.requestId`, `status.requestId`, `options.name`, and temporary `inputs.name`. Status is `{ loading, ok, status, statusText, error }`. Render load queries directly from `data` and `status` with `RefreshButton`; never wrap them in `SubFetch`.
`bind="search"` creates an in-memory input. It is never persisted. Supply invocation values only through `params`, for example:
Manual queries require `trigger: "manual"` on request and `SubFetch`; otherwise they run automatically. `triggerContent` with `triggerAriaLabel` makes custom content the launcher. `SubFetch` owns loading/error/retry; its child receives success plus `{ ok, status, statusText, loading: false }`. Never author `onClick` or fetch callbacks.
`SubFetch`, `ActionButton`, and `ToggleSwitch` need literal `requestId`; validation rejects missing/computed IDs.
Inside a successful manual result, `<RefreshButton requestId="search" label="Run again" />` reruns the same parameters.
When a manual SubFetch request ID, parameters, or effective definition changes, Homarr immediately hides its prior result and returns to the trigger. It cannot fetch the new parameters until the user triggers it again.
The `SubFetch` callback receives the entire JSON response exactly as previewed. If the response is `{ "results": [...] }`, render and map `result.results`; never map the envelope itself. Trace every rendered field from the preview response before persistence.
Format timestamps with safe static helpers; never use `new Date`. Never invent a formatter component. Use `Date.toLocaleString(value, "en-US", "UTC")` plus a visible `UTC` label. Also available: `Date.toISOString`, `Date.toLocaleDateString`, and `Date.toLocaleTimeString`.
For compact numeric enums, index a literal label array with a fallback:
Every stateful control must use `bind`, and its `inputs.<name>` value must feed a supported request/helper when it is meant to change remote data. For dependent pagination, declare `defaultValue={1}` and use `resetKey={inputs.search}` to restore page 1 when the query changes. If a control cannot affect the workflow through a binding, option, or runtime helper, render concise context instead of a dead control.
Callback parameters must not shadow the reserved roots `data`, `status`, `options`, or `inputs`. Use `<Icon name="refresh" />` or `<TablerIcon name="refresh" />`; never invent components such as `<IconFoo />`.
Use expression callbacks for supported collections and trusted slots. No callback blocks, IIFEs, authored recursion, or raw events. Regex is limited to safe string operations.
The object key `default` is the required source ID; `default` is not a property on a source. Source properties are `name?`, `baseUrl`, `networkScope`, and `auth?`:
Auth is `none`, `bearer`, `basic`, `{ "type": "apiKeyHeader", "name": "X-Api-Key" }`, or `{ "type": "apiKeyQuery", "name": "api_key" }`. A request defaults to source `default`, kind `query`, method `GET`, trigger `load`, inherited auth, and view permission. Set `trigger: "manual"` for a parameterized query. An action defaults to manual and modify permission. DELETE uses full permission and confirmation. Do not use `load: false`.
Use stable real URLs for public APIs and clear suggested URLs for self-hosted services. Homarr collects the installer's server URL, network scope, and credentials as source setup; credentials remain outside the manifest.
Paths use `{option:name}` and `{param:name}`; query/body references use `{ "$option": "name" }` and `{ "$param": "name" }`. Constants stay primitive (`take: 10`); `$param` is only for manual helpers, never load queries. Names and types are inferred.
Every option has `label`, `control`, and `default`. Optional fields are `description`, `choices`, `choicesFrom`, `min`, `max`, `step`, `advanced`, and `group`.
All requests use Homarr's protected server executor. Source origin, network scope, DNS, redirects, SSRF, rate limits, permissions, size limits, timeouts, and encrypted credential injection remain enforced.
The JSX interpreter blocks imports, hooks, refs, raw event callbacks, browser requests, eval, arbitrary functions, prototype access, unsafe URLs, global CSS escape, arbitrary portals, bigint, statement blocks, IIFEs, and recursion. Regex literals must be bounded and reject backreferences, lookbehind, nested quantifiers, excessive length, and unsupported flags.
Credentials are stored separately and never exported or returned to an agent. A published self-hosted source URL is only a suggestion: installers must confirm or replace private and loopback URLs for their own Homarr deployment. Source origins cannot be controlled through widget options.
description:Expose Homarr tRPC procedures safely through MCP. Use when adding or changing tRPC procedures under packages/api, adding MCP metadata, registering an eager MCP router, shaping tool inputs and descriptions, or reviewing MCP authorization, sensitive data, and destructive actions.
---
# MCP Integration
Expose a procedure only when an AI client should call it. Preserve the procedure's existing authorization and add MCP-specific safeguards for sensitive or destructive behavior.
## Assess exposure
Prefer:
- Data queries: list, search, get, health, stats, and summaries.
- User-requested actions with explicit permission checks and bounded inputs.
- Serializable results that do not reveal credentials or internal-only state.
Skip subscriptions, session/onboarding internals, file streams, blobs, credential values, and procedures whose authorization or audit behavior is unclear. Ask for a security review when a mutation is destructive, tenant boundaries are ambiguous, or returned data is sensitive.
## Add metadata
Place `.meta()` before `.input()` and `.query()` or `.mutation()`:
```typescript
getAll: protectedProcedure
.meta({
mcp:{
enabled: true,
description:"List resources the current user can access, including stable IDs used by resource_get",
No-input procedures can omit `.input()`; the MCP extractor accepts an empty object for them.
For mutations, state the effect and required permission in the description:
```typescript
remove: permissionRequiredProcedure
.meta({
mcp:{
enabled: true,
description:"Delete one resource by ID. Requires full access; get the ID from resource_all",
},
})
.input(z.object({id: z.string()}))
.mutation(async({ctx,input})=>{
// Perform the permission-scoped action.
});
```
## Write discoverable descriptions
Include every item that applies:
- What the tool returns or changes.
- Supported integrations or services.
- Required IDs and the tool that returns them.
- Permission requirements and the meaning of permission fields.
- Important bounds, confirmation semantics, or irreversible effects.
Use precise domain language. A description such as `Get calendar events` is insufficient because it omits supported services, required IDs, and result scope.
## Shape inputs for clients
- Use a top-level `z.object({...})` for parameterized tools.
- Bound strings, arrays, numeric ranges, pagination, and payload sizes.
- Use defaults where a safe, unsurprising value exists.
- Prefer explicit fields over a top-level union or discriminated union.
- Keep identifiers stable and describe how to obtain them.
- Keep secrets out of inputs unless the procedure is explicitly a credential-configuration flow with server-owned encryption and non-return guarantees.
## Register the eager router
The application router in `packages/api/src/root.ts` is lazy. MCP tool extraction is synchronous, so add an eager import and registration in `packages/api/src/mcp.ts`:
```typescript
import{resourceRouter}from"./router/resource";
exportconstmcpRouter=createTRPCRouter({
resource: resourceRouter,
});
```
Register the smallest router that owns the enabled procedures. If a parent router uses `lazy()`, import the needed subrouter directly. Metadata on a procedure is not enough; a procedure absent from `mcpRouter` is not exposed.
## Validate the tool surface
1. Confirm the procedure still enforces its ordinary auth and permission boundary.
2. Confirm `packages/api/src/mcp.ts` eagerly includes the procedure.
3. Confirm the generated tool name, description, and JSON schema are unambiguous.
4. Run the focused API MCP spec when the tool list or extraction changes: `pnpm test packages/api/src/test/mcp.spec.ts`.
5. Run the focused route spec when protocol or transport behavior changes: `pnpm test apps/nextjs/src/app/api/mcp/[transport]/route.spec.ts`.
6. If manually probing `/api/mcp/<transport>`, use a scoped API key and avoid printing credentials or secret-bearing results.
# Homarr Codebase Context
Homarr is an open-source, self-hosted dashboard for managing homelab services. It integrates with 50+ self-hosted apps (media servers, download clients, DNS, NAS, etc.) and provides a drag-and-drop widget-based UI.
## Tech Stack
- **Monorepo**: pnpm workspaces + Turborepo
- **Framework**: Next.js (App Router, `output: "standalone"`) — T3 Stack
- **Language**: TypeScript throughout
- **ORM**: Drizzle (supports SQLite via better-sqlite3, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- **API**: tRPC (HTTP + WebSocket subscriptions) with superjson + OpenAPI bridge via `trpc-to-openapi`
- **WebSocket subscriptions**: Client uses `wsLink` when `type === "subscription"`, connects to port 3001
### Multi-Database Support
Drizzle schemas exist in three parallel implementations:
- `packages/db/schema/sqlite.ts`
- `packages/db/schema/mysql.ts`
- `packages/db/schema/postgresql.ts`
Selected at runtime via `DB_DRIVER` env (`better-sqlite3` | `mysql2` | `node-postgres`). Migrations are per-engine in `packages/db/migrations/{sqlite,mysql,postgresql}/`.
### Widget System
Widgets are registered in `packages/widgets/src/index.tsx` as `widgetImports` (must satisfy `Record<WidgetKind, ...>`). Each widget:
- Has a `definition` created via `createWidgetDefinition(kind, { icon, createOptions, supportedIntegrations? })`
- Uses `optionsBuilder.from(factory => ({ ... }))` for typed options
- Loads dynamically via `next/dynamic`
- Fetches data via tRPC client hooks (backed by cron job caches)
### Integration System
Integrations are defined in `packages/definitions/src/integration.ts` (`integrationDefs`) and instantiated via `createIntegrationAsync` in `packages/integrations/src/base/creator.ts`. Each extends abstract `Integration` class with `testConnectionAsync` and typed methods.
### Cron Job System
Jobs defined in `packages/cron-jobs/src/jobs/`. Each job:
- Uses `createCronJob` with a cron expression
- Publishes results to Redis channels
- Widget subscriptions consume those channels via tRPC subscriptions
- Job management (start/stop/trigger) via `cronJobApi` HTTP client to port 3002
### Modals
Created with `createModal(component).withOptions({ defaultTitle })` from `@homarr/modals`. Opened via `useModalAction(SomeModal)`. Feature modals live in `packages/modals-collection/`.
### Forms
`useZodForm` from `@homarr/form` wraps Mantine `useForm` with zod validation. Shared form UIs in `packages/forms-collection/`.
### Routing (App Router)
- `apps/nextjs/src/app/[locale]/` — all UI routes under locale segment
Configured via `AUTH_PROVIDERS` env. Supports: `credentials` (local), `ldap`, `oidc`. Database sessions with httpOnly cookies. API key auth for programmatic access.
Docusaurus 3 site at `apps/docs/`, package name `@homarr/docs`.
- Run with `pnpm dev:docs` from root
- Build with `pnpm turbo build --filter=@homarr/docs`
- Uses Tailwind CSS 3 for custom pages (not Mantine)
- Imports `@homarr/definitions` for type-safe integration/widget metadata
- When adding or modifying widgets, integrations, cron jobs, API routes, env vars, or user-facing features, you MUST also update corresponding docs in `apps/docs/docs/`
# MCP Integration Guide
Every new tRPC procedure that provides useful functionality should be exposed as an MCP tool so AI assistants (Claude, Cursor, etc.) can use it. This is a first-class feature of Homarr.
## Adding MCP to a procedure
Add `.meta({ mcp: { enabled: true, description: "..." } })` to the procedure chain:
```typescript
// Read-only tool (query)
myProcedure: protectedProcedure
.meta({ mcp: { enabled: true, description: "Get all items with their status and metadata" } })
The `.meta()` call must come **before** `.input()` and `.query()`/`.mutation()` in the chain.
## Writing good descriptions
The description is the **only thing** an AI sees to decide when and how to use the tool. Write it like you're explaining to a colleague who has never used Homarr.
**Must include:**
- What the tool returns or does
- Which integrations/services it works with (if applicable)
- How to get required IDs (e.g., "Use integration_all to get the integrationId")
- Permission requirements (if non-obvious)
**Good:**
```
"Get calendar events for upcoming and recent media releases. Fetches from all connected Sonarr (TV), Radarr (movies), Lidarr (music), and Readarr (books) integrations. Requires integrationIds from integration_all"
```
**Bad:**
```
"Get calendar events"
```
**For tools that return permission fields**, explain what they mean:
```
"List all integrations. Returns permissions.hasUseAccess (read) and permissions.hasInteractAccess (actions) — false means the API key lacks that permission, not an error"
```
## Registering in the MCP router
After adding `.meta()` to procedures, you must register the router in `packages/api/src/mcp.ts`. This file uses **eager imports** (no `lazy()`) because MCP tool extraction requires synchronous access to all procedure definitions.
```typescript
// packages/api/src/mcp.ts
import { myNewRouter } from "./router/my-new-feature";
export const mcpRouter = createTRPCRouter({
// ... existing routers
myFeature: myNewRouter,
});
```
**If your router is nested** (e.g., widget sub-routers), import and register the sub-router directly — do not import a parent that uses `lazy()`.
## What to expose vs. what to skip
**Expose:**
- Data queries (list, search, get by ID)
- Actions users would ask an AI to do (toggle, create, delete, approve)
- Status checks (health, stats, summaries)
**Skip:**
- Subscriptions (WebSocket-only, not supported by MCP)
Install [Act](https://nektosact.com/installation/index.html) and ensure Docker is running, then use:
```bash
pnpm ci:act:fast
pnpm ci:act:docker
pnpm ci:act:all
pnpm ci:act:cleanup
```
`fast` runs the quality gate. `docker` and `all` run the gate followed by the single container build, E2E suite, and memory regression test. `cleanup` validates the manual cleanup path without calling GitHub. The wrapper supports regular clones and Git worktrees, including non-default Docker contexts. Linux dependencies are kept in Docker volumes instead of overwriting host `node_modules`. The first run downloads the Act runner and Playwright browser dependencies.
Remote caching is optional locally. Copy `.github/act/.secrets.example` to `.github/act/.secrets`, populate it with rotated credentials, and run with:
The tag is replaced when the pull request is updated and deleted when it closes. Production Homarr images remain the supported multi-architecture releases. The `homarr-test` package must be configured as public in GHCR for unauthenticated testers.
## Dokploy preview cache
Keep `needs-demo` as the Dokploy preview label. Under the application's **Preview Build-time Secrets**, configure `TURBO_API`, `TURBO_TEAM`, `TURBO_TOKEN`, and `TURBO_REMOTE_CACHE_SIGNATURE_KEY`. Dokploy passes these to the Dockerfile as BuildKit secrets. Do not configure the token or signature key as Docker build arguments.
Rotate any credentials that have appeared in chat, logs, or committed configuration before enabling the cache.

## Preserve your old installation
As 1.0 is a complete rewrite of Homarr and therefor not compatible with the old docker mounts, we need to export your data first.
For this you can navigate to the `Migrate to 1.0` page which you can find under `Management` > `Tools` > `Migrate to 1.0`.
Here you can select which things you want to export and download the zip file.
It will also show you a secret key which you will need to import the secret data like user password hashes, salts and integration secrets.
Homarr 1.0 is a complete rewrite and cannot reuse the old Docker mounts. Keep the 0.15 installation and its data intact while you build the replacement. The historical `Management` > `Tools` > `Migrate to 1.0` export can still be kept as a record, but current Homarr releases cannot import that ZIP or its secret key.
Plan to recreate your apps, integrations, and boards manually in the new installation. A SQLite database backup can be restored from the onboarding welcome screen only when it was created by a compatible current Homarr release; it is not a conversion path for a 0.15 database.

## Import your data
Once the installation is completed you can access the new installation. During the onboarding you'll need to select `Import from Homarr before 1.0`.
After that you can upload the zip file you downloaded in the first step.
The pre-1.0 ZIP importer is no longer included in current Homarr releases. Keep the old installation available until you have manually verified the replacement. Compatible SQLite backups from current releases can still be restored from the onboarding welcome screen.
After that you'll get a list with all your boards that can be imported. You can configure how it should be imported and can select which screensizes it should import.
Once you have selected everything you can click on `Confirm import and continue` which will open the encryption key input dialog where you can input the secret key you got during the export.
The host-side developer CLI builds and runs local Homarr images and pull-request previews with non-blocking background operations. Run it directly from a checkout with `pnpm dev:cli -- ...`; no shell-specific setup script is required. It is separate from the recovery CLI included in production images.
To install an optional `homarr` binary, run `pnpm dev:cli:install` and make your Go bin directory available on `PATH`. GitHub CLI authentication (`gh auth login`) is only needed for pull-request features.
## Requirements
- Docker or OrbStack
- Go 1.25+ (when building the CLI from source)
- GitHub CLI authenticated with `gh auth login` (for pull-request and CI features)
- A [Nerd Font](https://www.nerdfonts.com/) enabled in your terminal (recommended for icons, status indicators, and TUI glyphs)
## Interactive Development Browser
```bash
The main browser combines local `homarr:*` images with open pull requests and their GHCR preview status. Select an image to start or stop it, use `R` to build a remote pull request locally in the background or rebuild a local image, or use `p` to force a remote preview pull. Press `d` (or `1`/`2`) to toggle between the image browser and the instance dashboard.
A locally built PR image is folded into its remote PR row only when its recorded revision matches the current GitHub head SHA (marked `◆ local`). When the matching GHCR image is also available, pressing `Enter` opens a local/remote selector with local preselected. Outdated local builds remain separate rows.
- **`[build]`**: Real-time BuildKit step streaming for active local builds.
- **`[ci]`**: GitHub Actions CI check statuses, run duration, and workflow links for pull requests.
### Background Task Overlay
Pulls and builds run asynchronously in the background. Press `t` to open the tasks overlay, showing:
- Layer-by-layer download progress and transfer speeds (via Docker Engine API).
| `Enter` or `Space` | Start or stop selected instance |
| `s` / `S` | Stop / Restart instance |
| `x` | Remove container (preserves data volume) |
| `m` | Manage mode for selected instance |
## CLI Commands
The commands below use the installed `homarr` binary. Without global installation, prefix each command with `pnpm dev:cli --` (for example, `pnpm dev:cli -- list`).
# Build a pull request locally in a temporary checkout
homarr build --pr 6441
# Rebuild an existing image from recorded provenance
Images built with the CLI record their source checkout, revision SHA, and optional PR number. `homarr rebuild` reads this provenance to reconstruct the build without manual configuration.
This guide will help you set up your development environment to start contributing to homarr.
## Set up your development environment
### Prerequisites
- **Node.js (lts)**: You can download it from the [official website](https://nodejs.org/).
- **pnpm (latest)**: You can install it by running `npm install -g pnpm`.
- **Node.js 24.18 or newer**: You can download it from the [official website](https://nodejs.org/).
- **Corepack**: Run `corepack enable` so the repository selects its pinned pnpm 11 version.
- **Git**: You can download it from the [official website](https://git-scm.com/).
- **Docker or Docker Desktop**: You can download it from the [official website](https://www.docker.com/).
- **A GitHub account**: You can create one on the [official website](https://github.com/).
- **Docker or Docker Desktop**: Required for the Redis service and the developer Docker CLI.
- **Go 1.25+**: Required only for the developer Docker CLI. You can download it from the [official website](https://go.dev/).
- **GitHub CLI**: Required only for pull-request image features. Install it from the [official website](https://cli.github.com/), then authenticate with `gh auth login`.
### Setting up the project
The versions in the root `package.json` are the supported baseline. Let Corepack select the repository version instead
of installing an unrelated global pnpm:
1. Fork the repository by clicking on the "Fork" button on the top right corner of the repository page.
```sh
corepack enable
corepack install
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
```
### Run the Homarr application
2. Clone the repository to your local machine with `git clone`. You can find the url to use by clicking on the "Code" button on the top right corner of your forks repository page.
1. Copy `.env.example` to `.env`.
2. Set `DB_URL` to an absolute writable SQLite file path.
3. Keep Redis and the optional local databases running in one terminal.
4. Apply migrations and start Next.js in another terminal.
```sh
cp .env.example .env
```
3. Change directory to the project folder with `cd homarr`.
Terminal 1:
4. Install the dependencies with `pnpm install`.
```sh
pnpm docker:dev
```
5. Start redis by running `pnpm run docker:dev`. This will run a docker-compose file with a redis service.
Terminal 2:
6. Copy the `.env.example` file to `.env` and replace `DB_URL` with the full path you want to use for the sqlite database file. For example `DB_URL='C:\\Dev\\homarr\\packages\\db\\db.sqlite'`
```sh
pnpm db:migration:sqlite:run
pnpm dev
```
7. Run the migrations to create the sqlite db file with `pnpm run db:migration:sqlite:run`.
The infrastructure command remains in the foreground. Open `http://127.0.0.1:3000`; the first user created through
Homarr becomes the instance administrator.
Use `pnpm docker:dev:up` instead when you only need Redis in the background. Running the migration also seeds the
default data; use `pnpm db:seed` to seed it explicitly later.
8. Start the development server with `pnpm dev` and wait for a message that says `✓ Ready in 10.7s`
Workshop contributors can set up PocketBase and Docusaurus with the dedicated
[Workshop development guide](./workshop).
9. Open your browser and navigate to [http://localhost:3000](http://localhost:3000). (Loading the page might take up to 2 minutes the first time)
- **Local icons**: automatically fetched from the [medias feature](/docs/management/media/)
Using these icon sources, Homarr provides a total collection of over 11,000 icons at your fingertips.
The icon picker is a fast searcher that helps you to find your desired icon simply by entering a search term.
The image picker searches this collection after a short typing delay. When a name is available, such as an app or search engine name, the picker uses it as the initial search. Results show your locally uploaded images first, followed by SVG icons and then other image formats.
Icons that are high quality and printable ([SVG](https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Vector_Graphics)) are marked with a red badge "SVG" at the top right.
You can clear the selected image with the clear button or the usual keyboard shortcut for deleting a line (Command+Backspace on macOS or Control+Backspace on other platforms). Clearing the field does not restore the previous image.
### Using external icons
If you don't find the icon you're looking for on Dashboard Icons or wish to use a different source, you can simply enter a URL that points to an icon.
It is important that the URL directly points to the file without any advertisements or elements around it.
Direct HTTP(S) image URLs are used as entered instead of being searched in the built-in repositories. The picker previews the image and shows whether it loaded successfully. It is important that the URL directly points to the file without any advertisements or elements around it.
### Uploading a local image
Users with media upload permission can select **Upload image** next to the field. After the upload finishes, the new local image is selected immediately and is available at the top of future searches.
## Search and commands
Search is designed as the fastest route to Homarr. Start typing after `MOD` + `K` to find local apps, boards,
integrations, pages, commands, and preferences without entering a separate mode first. Local Homarr results appear
before configured search-engine actions and Assistant fallbacks. Commands include opening the board switcher without
leaving the keyboard. Type `!` to enter Web mode when you want to browse configured engine shortcuts or discover
DuckDuckGo bangs; bang discovery is excluded from ordinary Search results.
Use the dedicated shortcuts above to start in apps, Assistant, or preferences. Inside search, choose a mode to narrow
the same query when needed. Media request search is available only when a supported Seerr integration is configured.
## Widget advanced view
Supported widgets open a temporary advanced view when you hold `Shift` over them for 500 ms. Hold `Shift` plus `Ctrl`
on Windows/Linux or `Cmd` on macOS over the widget to keep the advanced view open, or use its menu.
## Board editing
`MOD` + `E` enters edit mode. Homarr keeps the current board visible while the editor prepares; movement and resizing become available when it is ready.
| `Enter` or `Space` | Starts or stops keyboard editing |
| Arrow keys | Moves the focused tile within its current canvas, rail, or Container |
| `Shift` + Arrow keys | Resizes from the tile's lower-right corner: Left/Up shrink; Right/Down grow |
| `Esc` | Stops keyboard editing without undoing its changes |
Keyboard moves and resizes apply immediately. To move an item between a canvas, rail, or Container, drag it there or use **Move / resize item** for precise numeric placement.
Commands at a grid boundary or at the tile's minimum size are ignored and announced instead of moving or shrinking the tile.
On touch screens, press and hold a tile before moving it; a quick tap does not start a drag. Resize handles accept direct touch input. During a pointer or touch move or resize, `Esc` cancels the interaction and restores the layout from before it started.
Of particular note here is that both configurations explicitly define which network they are using, in this case "proxy", but it can be named anything. It just has to be the same across all apps for which Traefik is serving as a proxy. These are marked as external because the proxy network was manually created by running: `docker network create proxy` but this might be unnecessary depending on HOW exactly you are running Traefik. For example, if running [Traefik with Portainer](https://docs.portainer.io/advanced/reverse-proxy/traefik#deploying-in-a-docker-standalone-scenario), you can follow their official docs on how to set up Traefik and Portainer together, and you can just focus on the Homarr docker labels instead.
If you'd rather manage group memberships for OIDC users locally (instead of via the IdP), set `AUTH_OIDC_GROUPS_LOCAL_MANAGEMENT=true`. While enabled, Homarr stops syncing OIDC users' group memberships from the groups claim, and admins can add/remove OIDC users on a group's members page. If you turn this back to `false`, the next login of each user resumes the regular sync and reconciles their groups with the IdP's claim again, which may remove memberships that were added manually while local management was enabled.
To let an existing credentials user also sign in with OIDC, set `AUTH_OIDC_ENABLE_DANGEROUS_CREDENTIALS_LINKING=true`. On the first OIDC sign-in, Homarr links a credentials user with the same email address instead of creating a second user. The user keeps their password login, local username and profile, groups, permissions, boards, settings, and API keys. OIDC profile and group claims do not overwrite the credentials-owned data. Homarr requires the OIDC profile to contain `email_verified: true` while this option is enabled. Only enable this when your OIDC provider verifies email addresses, because a matching email could otherwise be used to take over an existing account.
Our team of 4 developers is working on Homarr in their free time.
Homarr has become a big part of our daily things we work on - and therefore we invest a lot of time into maintaining Homarr,
providing support and implementing new features.
We also incur monetary costs while developing Homarr for the tools that we need.
A few examples include:
- Renting for a Cloud VPS for our cloud services (status page, monitoring, email, analytics, [demo instance](https://demo.homarr.dev/), ...)
- Paying for (IDE-) licenses
Using a donation, you help us to cover these expenses and enable the development of Homarr.
Homarr is completely free to use. We'd highly appreciate if you consider donating, especially if you use Homarr in a commercial environment.
Donations fund Homarr's development infrastructure and community services.
